The Spring/Summer 2012 Nicholas Oakwell Couture collection takes inspiration from the exquisite archives of the iconic jewellery house, Grima. The collection takes a modernist interpretation of Grima's pioneering pieces from the 60s and 70s along with more recent designs also inspired by the modernist movement. Like Grima, Nicholas Oakwell finds unconventional ways to use conventional materials and recreates metals and jewels in the finest fabrics. The result is a surprising and innovative collection in this second season from Nicholas Oakwell Couture.
A vision of timeless glamour inspires the collection, resplendent in gold and silver. Pailettes, beads, feathers, and prints are presented alongside opulent white ostrich and vivid gold alligator skins. Diamond-set Agate and Nests of gold translate from original pieces of jewellery into magnificently intricate embellishments. The metallics are contrasted with accents of tourmaline green, pink opal, aquamarine, and citrine - all inspired by the precious stones from Grima's rich archive. Accessories are unexpected and exquisite and make a strong statement. A collaboration with Nicholas Kirkwood delivers a shared celebration of precious metals.
Nicholas Oakwell launched his career as a milliner and has a reputation for his exquisite craftsmanship and his eye for elegant design. This is his second couture collection.
